Bil Brown
Bil Brown was born 1969 in Louisville, Kentucky home of Bourbon, Bluegrass, Hunter S Thompson and Muhammed Ali and has been an artist for 30 years. His creative life has had many a turn. Starting off as a musician, trained as a poet, the first camera he saw around a photographer's neck was the poet Allen Ginsberg, his Leica M6, Allen later introduced Bil to Robert Frank who gave the young man an idea of what a life behind the camera would be like. Bil is a graduate of Naropa University's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, with Post-Graduate work at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. He Co-Founded the Prazska Skola Poetiky in Prague, Czech Republic which ran from 1998-2005 where he also served as creative director. An avid scholar of the role photography plays in world culture and the interstices between art, photography and literature. In 2010 Bil founded the fashion art and literature periodical Black & Grey magazine and soon after started the creative agency NINESIXTYNINE, a unique photography collective whose goal is to connect passionate professional fashion artists, stylists, and studio professionals with the right match in editorial, fashion, commerce and public relations.
