Female Masculinity
by Monica Menez
Female Masculinity is an 80's inspired fashion editorial with an underlying theme of
liberation.
I wanted the audience, both women and men, to be able to see how a woman can be fluidly feminine and masculine. For me, it's not about balancing these two worlds, but leaving open the personal choice of which aspect a person wants to emphasize at a given moment!
So the question that arises is: what does it mean to be free? Is there such a thing as true freedom, are our actions controlled by ourselves or by external, socially determined factors?
Of course, we all want to emancipate ourselves from the constraints imposed on life by societal norms. But what do these things really mean to individuals, who may experience them differently depending on their background?
This editorial was first published in the current
Liberation issue of
The Forumist, Sweden.
